NCM’s Community Food Pantry provides a week’s worth of food for over 950 food insecure Northside individuals and families each month. Among local food pantries, it is the largest single client of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
The Pantry has only one paid staff person, but dozens of volunteers work to solicit food contributions and assist clients in obtaining other necessary services. The NCM Community Food Pantry is open from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Saturday of each month. Emergency assistance is available by appointment and special dietary needs are accommodated when possible.
“I feel like what I do here at the Food Pantry is making a difference. I am proud to be a small part of this process. I meet people from all walks of life and am thankful for the friends I have made here. Everybody works together as a team for one common purpose, and serving others is always rewarding.”
~ Food Pantry Volunteer Malta Langston
“I will never forget my first morning at the Food Pantry back in 2000. A man, probably in his upper 80s, asked all of us to hold hands while he led us in prayer. I knew then that I was in the right place. The reason I keep coming back is that at the end of the day, I know I helped fill a need that continues to grow in our community. I look forward to coming back each week.”~ Food Pantry Volunteer Bill English,Northmont United Presbyterian Church
Consider organizing a food drive at your church, school, community group or office. It's a great way to bring folks together to work towards a common goal. We are always in need of peanut butter, pasta sauce, soup, laundry detergent and paper towels and bathroom tissue. All canned, and boxed non perishable items are in demand.
