Our Programs

Pleasant Valley Emergency Shelter

Pleasant Valley Emergency Shelter accommodates the needs of over 25 men and male-identifying individuals who are homeless every night of the year. NCM staff assists the residents in various ways to provide a structured environment and to support their progress. The shelter opens daily at 4:30 p.m., providing clients with safe, secure sleeping quarters, a hot shower, and a warm evening meal. The goal of the shelter is for residents to have a plan to move beyond need to self-sufficiency.

To check for bed availability, contact the shelter Monday-Friday between 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at 412-321-4272, or email Ed Boehme at edward.boehme@ncmin.org.

Northside Food Pantry

The Northside Food Pantry provides a week’s worth of food for over 950 food-insecure individuals and families each month.  It has become a pillar of support for the Northside community. Its volunteers are one of the primary drivers of success for allowing it to run as smoothly as it does for such a comprehensive operation. Among local area food pantries, it is the largest single client of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Permanent Supportive Housing Program

In accordance with our mission to “receive the stranger,” NCM offers housing to residents who are working to break the cycle of homelessness.  This program is designed to address the long-term needs of residents who are homeless and have disabilities. An in-house case manager supports their emerging and ongoing needs and helps them celebrate their continued progress.

In conjunction with NCM, Mission Vision provides free eye screenings and eyewear.
